Music Monday – Grammy Nominations….

by SirLady on December 17, 2012

Its been a little over a week since the Grammy nominations were announced.  The Grammy Awards will air on Feb 10th.

This year there seems to be a interesting mix of artistry.  We were happy to see Jack White nominated for ALBUM OF THE YEAR with Blunderbuss.  RECORD OF THE YEAR nom nod to Gotye for “Somebody That I Used to Know”.  For  SONG OF THE YEAR, a little shocked to see Carly Rae Jepsen’sCall me Maybe” – perhaps the most annoying song of the year, we hope that fun. can come away with the award for “We Are Young”.

The BEST NEW ARTIST category is the most interesting:

Alabama Shakes
Hunter Hayes
The Lumineers
Frank Ocean

We are rooting for Florence + the Machine to win BEST POP PERFORMANCE BY A DUO/GROUP & BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM.  For BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE we are torn between Alabama Shakes for “Hold On” and Mumford & SonsI Will Wait”.

Another category that has us torn is BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM

The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, Fiona Apple

Making Mirrors, Gotye
Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, M83
Bad as Me, Tom Waits

We are rooting for Little Big Town to win BEST COUNTRY GROUP PERFORMANCE with “Pontoon”,  Esperanza Spalding for BEST JAZZ VOCAL ALBUM.

BEST AMERICANA ALBUM has become a hot category we love all the noms;

The Carpenter, The Avett Brothers
From The Ground Up, John Fullbright
The Lumineers, The Lumineers
Babel, Mumford & Sons
Slipstream, Bonnie Raitt

as is BEST BLUES & FOLK ALBUM (respectively):

33 1/3, Shemekia Copeland
