Woodstock Wednesday – Woodstock Guitar Sculpture Gallery Show

by SirLady on July 18, 2012

The last day of June, we noticed these beautiful works of art popping up in and around town.  Guitar sculptures in front of different stores and landmarks in the village each one telling a different story through the artist who was commissioned to the piece.   Spearheaded by Rennie Cantine, who is known for his life size guitar sculptures that stike a chord with anyone who comes across them.

Rennie also runs the Woodstock Guitar Festival every year, for this particular exhibition he teamed up with the Sweetheart Gallery.  Featured Artist include Peter Head, Lenny Kislin, Lila Bacon, Steve Heller and of course, Rennie Cantine.  The only thing that each sculpure does have in common is the shape, based on the custom Gibson Johnny A. Signature Model.

It has been a big hit in town. Tourists and residents alike have taken the time to take in each one and take pictures.

We invite you to come to town and take it all in before August 25th when the exhibit comes down.  If you find yourself attached to a particular sculpture, you can acquire it at auction.   The auction will take place at WDST Soundstage (also known as Utopia Studios), next to the Bear Cafe in Bearsville, with the proceeds going to the artist, the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and Volunteer Day. The auction will be conducted by Barry Cherwin of Cherwin and Cherwin Auctioneers.
